Mini-Symposia and Individual Contributions
The Conference now invites proposals for mini-symposia. A mini-symposium is a session of 3-5 speakers focusing on a topic and lasting for two hours. The organizer of a mini-symposium invites the speakers and decides on the topics to be addressed. Those interested in organizing a mini-symposium should submit a proposal to the Organizing Committee (Email mo2000@umac.mo) by no later than 15 Nov. 99. A proposal (preferably prepared in Latex, and submitted through email) should include information on the organizer, title and summary (about 100 words) of the mini-symposium, the speakers and the titles of their presentations. Formal notification of acceptance will be given. Individual contributed presentations will also be considered and gathered in mini-symposia by the Conference.
The conference is a joint Portuguese-Chinese initiative, and it will be held under the advice of an international Scientific Committee, composed by

The working language of the Conference is English, which will be used for all printed materials, presentations and discussion.
The city of Macau, in the South of China, with its University, good hotel facilities and an international
airport, in addition to being close to Hong Kong, is an ideal location for such a meeting. In particular, Macau has strong historical significance as a bridge of commercial and cultural exchanges between East and West. After a long period of European presence (Portuguese administration since 1557), it will return to Chinese administration in December 1999.

The Conference will be held at the University of Macau. Information about accommodation in a range of hotels will be available in the registration brochure or upon request.
The registration fee is US$200, which will cover banquet, lunches, tea breaks, and local tour. Deadline for registration is 30 Nov. 99.
